Fire and life safety systems upgrade
Metro South Health identified the need to upgrade their fire and life safety systems which are almost at the end of their servicable life. The systems require replacement to maintain the effective detection and evacuation systems to provide a safe environment for staff and patients within the hospital. A specified dust containment cart must be procured in order to undertake works inside the hospital.
The scope of the project comprises of:
- Replacement of the conventional detectors and manual call points with addressable detectors and manual call points including necessary wiring modifications
- Interfacing from the fire detection control and indicating equipment (FDCIE) to the new EWIS panel
- Replacement of the existing EWIS system including speakers, MECP, WIP and cabling
- The existing emergency lighting system is to be removed and replaced with Stanilite Nexus RF emergency lighting system
Works were completed in both day and night shifts across multiple zones throughout the hospital.
The primary challenge posed by the project was working within a live hospital environment. Communication, co-ordination, and transparency was the key factors in overcoming this challenge. Careful planning to ensure works run con-currently without hold-ups were the driving factor in meeting the programmed completion dates.
